As the northern gateway to Yellowstone National Park, the community of Gardiner thrives on visitors from around the world that the summer and winter visitor seasons bring. Hiking, wildlife watching, camping, and more are easily accessible, whether in Yellowstone or on other nearby public lands. The Yellowstone River also provides incredible opportunities for rafting, whether with guides or on your own for the experienced rafter.
When the visitors head home, Gardiner, which is an hour south of Livingston, quiets down. But the sense of community remains strong as residents come together to enjoy their proximity to the park during its beautiful autumns and springs.
Gardiner is home to Gardiner Public School, which serves kindergarten through twelfth graders in the town and surrounding areas.

Tourism is the primary economic driver in Gardiner and supports many small businesses, many of them open year-round.
Mammoth, located six miles south in the Park, is the headquarters for the National Park Service and Xanterra, the primary authorized concessionaire in Yellowstone. Jointly, they employ over 350 year-round employees and 4,500 seasonal employees.
